Traditional AAV affinity workflows remain constrained by serotype specificity, low-pH elution, recovery, reuse, or process-specific development requirements. This restricts scalability, cost efficiency, and ultimately patient access. 

AvXcel is a synthetic peptide-ligand affinity chromatography resin,  purpose-designed to overcome these limitations.

AAV affinity resins with biological ligand constructs require acidic elution (pH 2.5–3.0). This can lead to capsid aggregation, extended neutralization times, and loss of vector potency. 

AvXcel is the only resin designed to elute in either near-neutral and acidic conditions. This enables flexibility to optimize for either platform compatibility or functional yield, depending on product and process requirements.

 

No neutralization step.

 Acid-eluted material requires immediate neutralization to avoid capsid aggregation and loss of vector potency. Vectors purified on AvXcel show preserved capsid integrity and transduction potency while simplifying downstream operations by avoiding immediate neutralization pressure.

Serotype-Agnostic Capture

Near-Neutral Elution

Recommended elution at pH 6.0–6.8 preserves transduction efficiency and removes the mandatory neutralization step required when eluting in acidic conditions. 

Acidic Elution

Optional elution at pH 2.5 enables platform compatibility and extended lifetime through caustic CIP.

Extended Lifetime

Caustic-stable across 60+ CIP cycles with 0.5 M NaOH reducing cost-of-goods significantly versus resin replacement every 20–30 cycles.

Superior Impurity Clearance

Chris is responsible for identifying investment opportunities, assessing strategic fit within the portfolio, and supporting growth-related operational initiatives. A serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of bioprocessing experience, he has deep expertise across upstream and downstream technologies. Prior to BioProcess360, he founded and led the Purolite Bioprocessing division, growing it from zero revenue in 2015 to $80M in six years. The business was acquired by Ecolab (NYSE: ECL) in 2021 for $3.7BN. Earlier, Chris helped pioneer single-use technology at WAVE Bioreactors, later acquired by GE Healthcare (now Cytiva), and held senior roles at GE and Merck Millipore. He holds an MSc in Biotechnology and attended Harvard Business School. Outside work, Chris enjoys biking, paddleboarding, live music, and spending time with his two daughters.
